Established in 2010, the Unatti Art & Music Center provides free weekly classes and expressive interactive experiences for all children ages 4-12 within the Bhaktapur, Nepal community. Two local artist-educators teach approximately 75 children each week, with visiting artists providing special additional programming throughout the year.
Children who are trapped in the cycle of extreme poverty and limited opportunity nevertheless are encouraged to express themselves honestly, fearlessly, and happily, incorporating both local and Western artistic approaches and traditions. Unatti art programs are designed to direct students towards healthy forms of self-expression and provide a source of purpose and creative output. The Unatti Art & Music Center also provides nutritional snacks to our students, as they are often children who suffer from hunger, loss of parents, and neglect.
